An assignment is formulated from the ‘why’ and via the ‘how’ to the ‘what’. Prioritising the why prevents the conversation from remaining in a discussion about shape, in which personal preference prevails over the content.
Design assignments are by rule complex or even chaotic in their nature. A complex assignment can be made attainable by subdividing it into multiple difficult assignment and/or by expanding the team with specific knowledge and experience. For an chaotic assignment this works insufficiently so then a concept has to be formulated as a guideline for the design team.
