housing and chemist’s shop in Hoofddorp

The project mainly concerns a residential complex for the middle segment on a plinth with commercial functions, parking and storage space. The complex marks the corner of the Nieuwe Weg and the Burgemeester van Stamplein. There are twelve types of housing, varying from 95 to 132 m2 useful area. The majority are found in two main volumes; a high nine-storey volume and a low five-storey one. These two volumes are constructed on a three-storey plinth. There are housing units over the entire length of the top storey of the plinth. Three extra apartments on the 1st and 2nd floors on the Burg. Stamplein mark the corner with the Nieuwe Weg. Each storey houses four apartments in the high and low volumes, which are optimally oriented for the views and sunlight. The commercial functions are located on the ground floor of the plinth. A chemists’ shop will be situated on the Nieuwe Weg and an area has been reserved for a Grand Café on the corner of the ‘van Stamplein’. The entrances to the houses are clearly visible in the plinth. The first and second storeys of the plinth have a total of 104 parking spaces and 3 houses, including a maisonette attached to the chemists’ shop. The intermediate floor has a collective roof garden, interrupted by private gardens. This was based on the maximum admissible building volume. The volume outside the programme has been cut away, leaving behind a sculptured shape, with a clear inside and outside. The outside is smooth and untouched as it were, while the inside has a rough surface, thus enhancing the contrast between the various surfaces. The programme is strategically divided in the volume, with a view to the optimum style of residential character from the inside out.
