vision for development of Rijnenburg Utrecht

18-11-2008

Juurlink [+] Geluk urban development agency is to cooperate with architecten van Mourik among others, to create the structural vision for development of Rijnenburg, for the Municipality of Utrecht.

A jury chose this Rotterdam agency from a group of five selected during the tender procedure. Juurlink [+] Geluk is to design the most sustainable and climate-resistant residential landscape of the Netherlands. The structural vision must be complete by the end of 2009.

Each agency gave its vision on the development of Rijnenburg. The deciding aspect for the jury was the vision presented by Juurlink [+] Geluk and the attention it paid to landscaping issues of housing. Juurlink [+] Geluk was founded in 1995, and employs fifteen staff, including urban developers, landscape designers and architects. Juurlink [+] Geluk is working together with the DG Group, Raadhuis advisers and architecten van Mourik on the structural vision.

Rijnenburg
Rijnenburg is the rural area south of the A12, bordering on the Groene Hart (green heart nature area) on the one side and on IJsselstein and Nieuwegein on the other. The Municipality of Utrecht wishes to build between 5000 and 7000 houses here. There will also be a considerable green area and possibilities for special forms of employment. The structural vision of Rijnenburg was drawn up by the urban development agency and the municipal authorities, and can be seen as providing the framework of an urban development design. It determines, for example, the nature of the infrastructure, the sub-division of the area into high and low densities, the atmosphere of the area and the lie of the landscape. The municipality involves interested parties in development of the structural vision, including the environmental federation, landowners, surrounding municipalities and residents.

Climate-resistant and future-proof
Parallel to the structural vision, the municipality is working together with the Provincial authorities and Polder Board to make the development of Rijnenburg suitable for the forecast climate change. The results of this so-called ‘Climate atelier’ will be included in the plans for Rijnenburg.
