The jury of the foundation responsible for this new stimulation prize has selected three nominees from fifteen exemplary projects for this first edition of the Bouwpluim. The nominees taken from the interesting range of innovators in the construction process are as follows: Kampen Zuiderzee port development, Nolet Distillery tunnel and the Management & Maintenance pilot project for Zeeland roads. They competed for the Bouwpluim 2009, a prize awarded to stimulate the new construction culture. The very first Bouwpluim was awarded during the Gala of the Dutch construction industry on Wednesday 11th February 2009, by Jury chairman Elco Brinkman.
All the projects submitted were representative of the new style of cooperation in the construction world. It was therefore no mean feat for the jury to arrive at a choice. In the end, the three nominees proved distinctive for the following reasons. According to the jury, the ‘Kampen Zuiderzee port development’ offers room for innovation and challenges the market to devise creative solutions. This results in an optimally sustainable design which serves the interests of society. The jury believes that ‘Nolet Distillery Tunnel’ is an example which proves that horizontal cooperation in combination with the right expertise can lead to ideal solutions. In the jury’s opinion, the ‘Management & Maintenance of Zeeland roads' pilot project by the Department of Public Works proves how a correct dialogue results in a relationship based on trust. The sector’s ability to think along with the issue was proven excellently in this project.
The foundation responsible for the Bouwpluim prize aims to stimulate social anchoring of the new construction culture by rewarding good cooperation between clients and contractors with an annual prize. For the time being, the Bouwpluim is intended for infrastructure works and is awarded to the team of clients and contractors who have proven to be able to work together in a transparent and innovative manner.
